Editorial Independence Statement
The Enugu Fact Check Hub operates as a quasi public agency established by the Enugu State Government. While we receive public funding and support, we maintain complete editorial independence in all our work.
Our Autonomy
The Enugu State Government does not:
- Influence which claims we investigate
- Review our fact checks before publication
- Direct our research methods or conclusions
- Approve or reject our findings
- Access our unpublished work
How We Operate
We function independently through:
- A governing board that includes journalists, academics, and civil society representatives
- Internal editorial policies that protect our research from external pressure
- A mandate that prohibits government interference in our editorial decisions
- Transparent funding that comes with no strings attached to our content
What This Means
We fact check all claims equally, regardless of source. This includes:
- Statements by Enugu State Government officials
- Claims about state policies and programs
- Information from opposition parties
- Social media posts about state matters
- News reports on government activities
Our only loyalty is to accuracy and truth.
Accountability
We answer to the public, not the government. If you believe we have compromised our independence or shown bias in our work, contact us. We take these concerns seriously and will investigate and respond publicly.
Funding Transparency
Our budget comes from the Enugu State Government as part of its commitment to combating misinformation. This funding is allocated through a mechanism that prevents any single government official or department from controlling our resources or operations.
The Enugu Fact Check Hub exists to serve the people of Enugu State with honest, impartial fact checking. Our independence is not negotiable.
